Just did a radio thing

December 18th, 2007

Hey! I wrote a little story about the Chicago City Limits Christmas party last night. It was on the radio in Boise, Idaho. I’ll have the mp3 up in a few days.

On the same team

December 13th, 2007

Sometimes I feel like there are two teams in a store: the Staff team and the Customer team. And we’re in a scrimmage of sorts. Sometimes, though, I find it surprising when customers are so much against one another.

There are times when I am clearly in the middle of a conversation with a customer. She might be responding to a question that I’ve asked her.

I find it odd when, mid-word, someone on the Customer team interrupts someone else on the Customer team. Just will come right up and interrupt a customer.

Weird. You guys are on the same team. Work together.

Anyway, not as many posts because Christmastime in retail is a little crazy.

Do you need more staff?

November 20th, 2007

Last week there was a woman who came into the store who appeared as though she’d just come from Pilates. She was in a little warm up jump suit thing.

She was in a big hurry and seemed very frazzled. I was happy to help her out and went through the entire store with her as she SuperMarket swept her way through the cleaning products in Laundry, and the food storage area of Kitchen.

This woman was stressed.

In the time that I worked with her, I counted a staff of at least four. She was trading phone calls with 1) her driver 2) her nanny 3) her housekeeper (and the new housekeeper in training) 4) her personal assistant.

Here’s the thing: if I have a staff of that many people doing so many things for me, I better be relaxed. Clearly, something is amiss. Isn’t the point to have all of these people working for you to make your life easier? So then why does your life seem so frenzied? Odd.

Video mix up!

November 5th, 2007

I gave the wrong video clip to my web designer. So, the video that plays when you go to my site, is actually the next video that I have lined up.

Check out TFG vol. 12 here on the blog, You Tube, My Space, or Funny or Die.

The proper video should be up on the home page in the next few days.

Sir, Ma’am You use them for What?!

November 2nd, 2007

A man came into my store today dressed as a woman: high heels and all. A skirt. Some sort of wrap around his head. But no vocal affectation of being a woman. Didn’t try to make the timbre of his voice higher, nothing. Completely sounded as a man.

Anyway, I overheard him telling one of my colleagues, “And I poke holes in them and use them to put my snakes in.”

As I was relaying this story in the break room. Someone else said that he’d come in in the past and says he has over one hundred snakes. And he was wearing a girl scout uniform.

Wow. Not my usual customer.

New Video up!

November 1st, 2007

I know that it won’t officially be up on the site for a few days, but I just wanted to get the word out that I have a new TFG video out. It’s up on You Tube. Or you could see it right here!
